How we are evaluated

  • Here the focus is on sustainability practices, recycling of all kinds and strongly enforced policies and ordinances. Hazardous waste minimization and collection.  Conservation of water and energy.  LEED certification and abatement of air, noise and light pollution.  Rain gardens, rain barrels and composting.

  • In the municipal segment, leadership in environmental initiatives, new programs and effective communication of environmental strategies.  And, finally, clear evidence of wide community involvement and youth participation including events such as Earth Day, Recycling Days and Bike to work/school efforts.

How Coshocton excels in this category

The City of Coshocton provides curb-side recycling access to all residential homeowners. Collection of steel and aluminum cans, plastics, newspaper, cardboard, and glass containers are included in this service.

Bill 592 mandated that all counties, single or jointly, should help reduce the amount of solid waste generated within their county, encourage recycling and help increase purchasing of materials with recycled-content. Coshocton County Litter Prevention and Recycling Organization was created with these goals in mind. They work with schools, 4-H groups, Boy Scouts and other groups, giving presentations and sharing resources on solid waste and recycling, as well as, general awareness programs, such as America Recycles Day radio contest, advertising, and flyers.

Coshocton receives grant funding for litter prevention and recycling. The district also provides money to the Coshocton County Sheriff’s Department for a Litter Law Enforcement Officer, and to the Coshocton County Health Board for a county sanitarian.

The new justice center will be built on a Brownfield site cleaned up by Grant dollars and with Ohio and US-EPA funding.
